the august break, twenty seven

milo

i got a new lens today.
and aside from this shot, really can't tell you much about it.
busy days, i tell you!
between the silly germans going back to school last week and the silly quebeckians going back to school on wednesday, my relaxed august mojo has been heartily disrupted.

oh, for those long ontario summer days on the dock...

school is meant to begin after labour day and end before st. jean baptiste day. that is the perfect school year.

and as for the lens, it is the sweet little 40mm/f2.8 pancake lens by canon. it had solid reviews and i was in the mood for something little and prime-y and DoF-y. So far it is delivering. looks teeny on the front of my camera though.

i will share more when i have had a chance to play with it a little more.

until then, still taking a photo a day, just not having any time to write about them.

kids, sun, pool, pups, repeat.

four more days of the august break. then september insanity begins for real.

august break, seven - little a

i have made some pretty neat new friends this summer.
they also happen to have really great kids.
there are two "a"'s in the gang, little a and big a ( not to be confused with baby a who now goes by alexander if you ask him...).
this is little a, a little man with a big smile.
although i think he is just as beautiful when he is not hamming it up.

i still love taking photos of kids best.

(big a is still to come...he is a tough one to capture still, lol. i am working on him!)

august break, six

august break, six, originally uploaded by Jhascrapmom.

just another day at the pool.

alex was hurt and his fave guard was making his world okay again.

it will be a sad september, i think, when alex realizes that the pool closes.

and for the fun of it, i pulled out my old camera, with my 10-20mm lens.
and realized how much i miss that damn lens and it's warpy ways.
well, and i miss Seven as well. Seven? well, yes, my 7D.
don't you name your camera?
it was gathering dust with the lens.
i think i may keep the team together a little bit longer.

summer has started

not quite the face i anticipated!

anyone else have favourite images of your family and friends NOT looking quite picture perfect? not ugly or captured in an awkward pose...just...real.

( i am a firm believer in not sharing photos that make people look awful. ever. interesting, yes. unflattering? no. i totally get to make the rules in my photo universe and they are nice rules)

i always like those *real* images the best. you know, the one you can just imagine the story behind.

the yearly tradition

her digs for the next month, originally uploaded by Jhascrapmom.

of the camp drop off happened today.

miss h danced off into the woods with her counselors and friends with barely a thought to the heartbroken man and boy she was leaving behind...

i, of course, was perfectly fine, with my years of camp love, knowing exactly how much fun this kid is going to have. i did not spend a second being sad over how much i will miss her.

not one second.

maybe a thousand seconds;), but do not tell her that.

i am now alone with a house full of men, with no female respite and understanding.
would she have noticed me crawling into her well worn camp trunk, to stay just a little bit longer? to enjoy even a few minutes of the companionship and independence that being away from home offers?

i fear she would have quickly reminded me that did i not just have that? criss crossing france in the merry company of fantastic women? alone and unencumbered with the responsibilities of home.

oh yes, she would have quickly set me straight.

(for as much as i wanted to stay at camp, she wanted to go to france. fair is fair ).

so, off she went, happy and excited and full of anticipation for what this summer will bring.

and off we went, proud of this girl who is fearless and embraces all the experiences that come her way.

and already missing her before we left the camp gates.

of course the boys are there in spirit. and posters. 1D.
